Akula, a high end outdoor furniture supplier to mainly Hotels, Resorts and Spas worldwide, is based in Wetherby, Yorkshire.
Their Calne office is run by Mike Weston and Costas Kyprianides.
Akula historically sold yarns and textiles but branched out into selling outdoor furniture to the UK market two years ago. The decision was then taken to go global. This is where the international sales skills of Mike and Costas, who both live locally, were required.
Mike Weston was International Sales Director of a competitor in the furniture industry and before that he worked mostly in the Motor trade, originally for Volvo UK as a Regional Manager, followed by a move to become the Middle East/ North Africa Sales Director for Ferrari/Maserati, based in The Emirates.
Costas Kyprianides has a background in furniture sales for the last thirteen years, both in the UK and Internationally. Prior to this Costas has worked with household names such as Thermos, Denby, Hitachi and Yamaha.
As a result of Mike and Costas efforts, Akula are now preferred suppliers to Marriott, Hilton and Thomson, among other iconic names in the hospitality sector. They have also recently completed a contract to supply furniture for the Star Alliance First Class lounge for Air New Zealand at Los Angeles International Airport.
In the UK Akula supply Costco and end of lines to Achica.
Akula attend international trade shows every year. The most prestigious of these being Maison et Objet in September in Paris. Other shows are in Valencia, Koln and Milan, where Akula aim to meet distributors, detailers and interior designers.
Long term Akula are planning to branch out into interior furnishings for bedrooms and lounge bars in hotels.
